We left Centerville UT this morning at 8:20 am, a sunny but windy 71 degrees. We got on I -80 and drove across Wyoming stopping in Rock Springs for gas. Gas is about 25 cents less per gallon in Wyoming than in Utah. We continued on to Laramie WY and turned South on US Hwy 287, heading to Berthoud CO.
We arrived in Berthoud at about 4:30 pm and were greeted by Joe and their 2 dogs, Teddy and Lucy. Joe & Kim Vittetoe, friends of Mary Ann, were our hosts, along with their lovely daughter, Mary. Mary had recently lived in Paris, working as an au pair. Joe prepared a scrumptious meal of grilled chicken, salads & corn on the cob. After dinner we all took the dogs for a walk to see their downtown area, just a few blocks from their house.
Berthoud is a quaint community; the term “Americana” best describes it. They have one of the original A&W Rootbeer drive-ins with carhop service and phones at the booths inside for placing your order. Walking back home, if I lagged behind, Lucy, an Australian Shepherd mix, would stop and wait for me, doing her job of keeping the herd together.
Back home & off to bed, tomorrow will be a long drive to Lees Summit, MO.
