Bike for the Cure – Day 7 – driving from Savannah to Stone Mountain GA
Wednesday, June 8
We left Red Gate Campground in Savannah and headed for Stone Mountain with plans to visit our cousin Robin and her husband, Tom. We stopped at a Cracker Barrel along the way to have breakfast, and Mary Ann bought a dress for the convention.
We mapped our route to Stone Mountain and the GPS took us on all the secondary roads, turning about every 2.5 miles. We arrived in Stone Mountain at about 6:00 this evening. It was about an 8 1/2 hour day; we thought we’d never get here. But we did and were pleasantly surprised that their daughter, Carlin was joining us. Carlin is a graduate of the University of Alabama with a degree in Interior Design and quite the artist, not to mention a delightful young lady. We met at a Mexican restaurant for dinner, then followed them to their house. After dropping off the van, they took us to a neighborhood brewery to sample the locally brewed beer and for more chin wagging. Then back to their house to meet their two dogs, a frowsy little Chihuahua/Shitzu/Poodle mix named Max and a little Bull Dog named Mabel, both vying for attention as we wrapped up our conversation for the night.
We had been puzzling over where to park the van while we are at the Convention, as the hotel could not accommodate us and downtown Atlanta overnight parking is $125/day! We decided to go to a Park and Fly lot, shuttle to the airport and MARTA (subway) in to the hotel; $39 for 3 nights, Bingo!
More from the convention tomorrow.
